Kingfisher Fraser Island Tour

A one day tour of Fraser Island where you will take in the most beautiful areas of the island.

Your tour begins with a courtesy pick up from your accommodation in Hervey Bay around 7.30am.

Cruise the Great Sandy Straits on the Kingfisher Catamaran and arrive at the Kingfisher Bay Resort. Then it is onto the 4WD vehicle to explore the World Heritage wilderness of Fraser Island.

On this full day tour a ranger will tell you about the formation of the island, its vegetation and fauna types, as well as the Aboriginal and European history.

The world's largest sand island has some most surprising features. Walk through the towering rainforest growing in sand, discover huge sandblows moving across the island and swim in a beautiful fresh water lake.

Drive along the world's most beautiful highway, Seventy-Five Mile Beach and marvel at coloured sand formations at the Pinnacles and see the famous Maheno ship wreck. Swim in the fast flowing, clear, fresh water of Eli Creek or wander round the board walk to admire the wildflower clothed dunes.

Stroll around Central Station, a former logging town, then follow the board walk through the rainforest, along the banks of Wanggoolba Creek to view the king fern - a rare and endangered plant.

Wanggoolba is the aboriginal name for macrozamia and this creek area was a rich source of food for the Aborigines.

Spot the birds of prey and sea birds that make their home on the east coast and keep an eye out for dingos.

Fraser Island has well over 40 lakes, some with crystal clear water and others with black, organic-stained water. Visit some of these wonderful lakes.

Relax or take a swim in Lake McKenzie, one of the most beautiful lakes on Fraser with its pure white sand and crystal clear waters.

Find out more about the history of logging at beautiful Pile Valley rainforest with its towering stands of satinay. Prized for its long straight trunks and resistance to marine borer, Pile Valley satinay was used as piles for wharves. This Fraser Island timber was used as sidings in the Suez Canal and in the London docks.

Your tour includes a buffet lunch at Eurong Beach Resort.

You return to Hervey Bay at approx 5.45pm.

Please wear comfortable shoes and bring a camera, swimmers, hat, sunscreen and water bottle.
